From true crime in Australia and Germany’s far right to gender-affirming surgeries in the 1970s and vertical romcoms: the selection for this year’s Seriesly Berlin Project Pitches is in. 18 international series projects will take the stage on 15–16 September at Fotografiska Berlin during the Seriesly Berlin Conference, part of the third edition of Seriesly Berlin (14–17 September 2026). From Latvia and Ireland through Germany, across Europe to North and South America, and on to Australia, the projects explore self-expression, identity, friendship, family and different forms of love — rooted in very different local realities.
More than 250 projects were submitted this year. What stood out was how strongly many of them engage with the world we are living in right now — through deeply personal stories, often with plenty of humour and optimism.
For the first time, the pitching programme spans three categories reflecting different stages of development and formats. Selected creators and producers will present their projects to an international industry audience of broadcasters, streamers, sales agents and financiers.
On 15 September, the Co-Production Pitch showcases seven more advanced projects from Australia, Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Portugal, Latvia and Italy looking for co-producers, financing and international partners — from a true crime case to a Cold War thriller.
Also on 15 September, the Writers’ Pitch introduces seven original early-stage projects from Ireland, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Serbia and the USA, including two engaging with Germany’s far right.
The new Vertical Drama Pitch (16 September) presents four projects from France, Germany and a German-Argentinian-Spanish co-production exploring vertical and digital formats.
The projects compete for the Co-Production Pitch Award and the Writers’ Pitch Award; the jury includes Anna Winger (UNORTHODOX), Mattie Do (THE LONG WALK), Silke Bacher (Homebase Künstleragentur) and Fleur Winter (THE CRASH). New this year: through a partnership with Cine Chromatix, the Co-Production Pitch winner receives an in-kind post-production award worth €25,000 for colour grading. The SteinbrennerMüller Award also honours one German-language project with a communications concept worth €2,000. The programme is organised with the European Writers Desk and Creative Europe MEDIA Desk.
