What The Heck Is A Queer Show?! Queerness in Mainstream TV

The challenges of queer representation on TV are nothing new. Nevertheless, creators, producers and broadcasters still struggle to approach the topic authentically or establish themselves as queer authors in an industry plagued by long-standing and emerging questions around gender identity. In this panel, we will explore how queer storytelling has evolved from the hetero gaze to authentic voices while considering the impact of on-screen LGBTQIA+ representation on young creators. We will also examine which queer stereotypes continue to be reproduced despite decades of debate.
